MUNICH, Germany – Peace organizations and ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) groups joined in Munich on January 22, 2022 to celebrate the first anniversary of the signing of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and to also push for clear steps towards full disarmament in Germany. Although Germany does not possess any nuclear weapons, the United States keeps weapons in the country inside American military bases. Removing those weapons was a focus of the protest.
There are now 59 states in the treaty, the first conference of the contracting states is planned for later this year.
